Restoration

Boubou

Found on ebay, this large bear is badly damaged.

Identification test:
The hands and the soles are made of leather.
The body is padded with chopped wood fiber.
He wears a small plastic collar.
There is no indication of a brand.

The shape of the limbs, the general morphology, the contrasting muzzle indicate that it is undoubtedly a CHADVALLEY, around 1920

Steps of restoration

1- Original Boubou

1- Original Boubou

The body covered in dust and cobwebs is encrusted with insect cocoons.
Certainly exposed to moisture, the coat is moldy or missing in places and has many rips.
The eyes and nose are gone.
It lacks padding.

First aid :
Dusting with a blower rids the bear of cobwebs, dust and cocoons.
No washing possible, humidity is prohibited, the coat becoming ragged. Dirt should be removed dry with a soft, absorbent fabric until the remaining fur regains its color and loft.
A gentle brushing completes the treatment.

2- Damage

2- Damage

With the body structure intact, little restorative work remains.
It is simply necessary to make an opening in order to compensate for the compaction of the wood fibers by filling in with vegetable fibre.
The seam is closed at the ladder stitch. A few recovery points repairs weakened or even torn areas.
The seams of the palms and soles are reinforced in the areas of wear, the original fabric being retained.
